I am starting to resotre a 70 coupe. My wife was visiting this forum off and on and said someone had a website linked that gave a detailed description of removing old paint and subsequent bodywork/prep for painting. Does anyone know where that link is?
I am starting on the undercarriage, brakes, front end, etc. Will work upwards. I have determined that a body off restoration is not in the works. I have inspected for rust, etc., and it is not a problem.
Brakes: Complete swap out. Want larger calipers, highest performance available for street use? Any suggestions? Will also need to know what wheels sizes are needed for the largest brakes.
As for the brakes, I think you can upgrade.
But why ? The stock vette brakes are more than adequate
when working properly. I would go with SS sleeved units and
the O-ring pistons.

I agree that stock brakes are very very good. I had a couple of new c3's so I speak from a new car perspective. I am one that likes to drive fast, not to be confused with unsafe though those terms are somewhat exclusive of each other. I want more braking power, not for the street, but for track events. I have an 03 Z06 and the brakes are phenominal but will probably upgrade when it is time to refurbish.
I want to put larger rotors and that will probably necessitate larger rims. Of course, I need more tread width for track events so I want to incorporate both changes considering the effect one has on the other.
I dont know about lars paper,Ive never read it.I would like to make a suggestion on the total project though. If I were you I would do the paint and body work first for this reason. When you complete your undercarriage work ,it will look nice, clean and detailed. Then you are going to get sanding dust ,primer overspray .wet sanding sludge/residue,paint overspray, and buffing compound all over it.I know to some people it sounds back azzwards, but paint and bodywork makes such a mess it is impossible to keep it off mechanical items. How do yo think GM did it when they built the car originally? :yesnod: :seeya
