I was taking the headers off mine and the right front header bolt is also part of the mount for the A/C compressor. There is a spacer that holds the mount out from the motor. There is a long stud through the spacer and mount into the motor. Then a nut tightens the mount and header down. I assume this is how it was done originally, but I'm not really sure. The compressor was changed over to R-134A, and I don't know what all was changed when that was done. The spacer I took out was a socket. I don't think that was what GM would have done. I was thinking I should find the original spacer since Pete probably dropped and lost the original and the socket was close enough and on he goes. However, I started thinking what if the header flange is a different thickness than the original manifold thickness. That would cause a different spacer to be needed.
Is this spacer an original part? What size should it be? What is the thickness of the original manifold? My headers of 1/4" thick. Can you buy the spacer and stud? The stud on mine looks OK, but I'm not really sure.

Check this link. I just went through this with my 1980 took a while to figure out all the mounts but once I found them all it was pretty simple fix.
I am getting ready to redo a lot of things in my engine bay, including installing headers, so I have a new bolt and spacer for the AC bracket for my 80.
I was unable to find the stud itself, so I bought the AC compressor bolt kit from Zip, and the spacer. The spacer is 1" long, and there are plenty of threads left for your header flange..
