I have decided to replace the engine wiring harnesses for my 1973 Stingray as part of my restoration endeavor.
As some of you know Lectric Limited sells these for our cars for around $220. Since mine is a 73 with the old points type distributor, I called their technical support number to see if their 1973 wiring harness had the distributor wire upgraded to work with an HEI distributor. He said “No and we don’t do custom wiring so don’t ask!” I was a bit stunned so I politely asked “Ok so could I just order the harness for a 1975 that used the HEI.” “NO!! They are completely different” After a long silence I said thank you and goodbye.
At any rate I wanted some opinions of the C3 gurus. Could I not order the correct wiring harness (the one that has the distributor wire) from a 1975 corvette and use that since I am going with an HEI distributor? Everything else on the harness should be compatible I am thinking. The only exception should be the distributor wire which would be the correct wire gauge to run an HEI distributor.
Thank you folks. Yes I see that IGN terminal at the bottom of the fuse box. Was originally gonna do that but thought if I replace the harness I MIGHT not have to. Oh well no big deal.
