So here's what I'm thinking - if I can take a razor blade and carefully cut away some of the plug/grommet from inside the battery box, that will make less material that i have to get through the hole...and I'll spray it with a little penetrating lubricant...and then pull from under the car. If I'm careful, I won't cut the fiberglass box...and I'll cut the plug material...and that should get it out. Then, since my new grommet slides on the new cable, I can pull ~3 feet of cable (terminal end) out of the grommet and then do the hose clamp idea to keep the grommet from coming any further back....then lube up the domed/battery side of the grommet and pull on the cable from the battery box and hope it slides/pops into the hole. Then, once the grommet is in place, I can pull the cable back to me and remove the hose clamp!

Am I crazy?

Update - I cut a few sections of the old plug out from inside the battery box...and was able to push it through!!! so now I will snake it out of the car and then snake the new one in....stay tuned...but progress!!!

I got the new one in! Actually, my son got it! So now I'm just trying to secure all of the clamps. In this middle space, there is not much space between the battery cable and the other cable - I'm guessing E-brake? There might be 1/4 inch between them? But the battery cable shouldn't move... And I can't imagine the E-brake cable will move? It won't shake around down there while driving right? I mean, it must have been like this on the old cable... I don't see how it could be any different. Does anyone have experience with this and can confirm that this looks correct?

Great. Glad you got it installed.

Mine is not that close but it seems you might be okay. One thing to think about is that the battery cable may get more flexible as it gets hot and may expand and contract with temperature. Maybe you can loosen both clamps near the brake cable, use the end of a hammer handle or something to push the battery cable further away from the brake cable and then re-tighten the clamps? Whether you leave it the way it is or move it further away, one key would be to make sure the battery cable can't slide within the clamps which could reduce the clearance over time.

I don't think the cable moves much as it's under spring tension all the time. Regardless, can you put a little more curve into the battery cable to fit back in the corner more?
