Default tail light ground question

Is this the ground for the tail lights. When replacing antenna on my 1980 I discovered it just hanging unattached but my tail lights work. I believe this pic is of a 1979 as the 80 doesnt require external antenna groung. May be grounding through some other point. This wire comes out of a bundle near the back bumper.

that looks like 3 grounds there. the corvette is a boat. mostly fiberglass. you have to ground every thing that isn't attached to the engine or frame. count your blessings it doesn't live in salt water. i think the big braided ground that grounds the rear crash bar-bumper shock-whatever it is called is also grounding the tail-back up-license plate lights. as they are most likely grounded to it since they are mounted to it.

Thanks, the braided wire is attached to the antenna which i believe was the case in 1979 but not 80. The insulated black wire with the eyelet is just hanging loose under my car. There is some continuity between it and the battery ground so its getting a little ground from some other source. I am certain it should be attached to the frame to complete a ground for the tail lights or something else. I do have one light thats not as bright as the rest. I'm going to attach this to the frame as im sure it grounds something. I was just wondering if anyone had any previous knowledge of this wire. I appreciate your response.

Do you have a wiring diagram? There is a ground for the entire rear light harness (the gas gauge ground is separate). You should be able to find it if you trace along the bundle. It may go to that point, or elsewhere, I forget, and don't have a good photo.

Also, just because everything looks okay, doesn't mean it is. Ring it out with your multi-meter.

Here's a light socket that was in my 80. The connector had failed internally, but still passed the tug test.
