Welcome to c3 world! I bought my 76 when I was 23 and still have after 30 years. It’s in the midst of an overall rebuild now.

I have Hooker sidepipes now and I’m replacing the old steel with a new set of stainless. Pricey but i always wanted the stainless headers. Also got the Steel Shields heat guards. I’ll reuse the STS baffles I have Hookers almost always have to be redrilled to get the header bolts lined up.

check your frame and body mounts before you get them on. Might be the last time you can inspect the front two for awhile.

use antisieze on the slip on pipes.

also be prepared to relieve/ dent some Primary pipes to get them to fit. Most ppl have to.

If you would like the sound but not go deaf then look at Chambered Exhaust pipes. I have chambered pipes on both of my Corvettes and love them. The sound is side pipes level loud but comes out the Back of the Corvette. My Corvette is louder than most Harley's but is perfectly fine on a four hour trip since the noise is following you. The folks who built my chambered exhaust system offered it in three levels of loud. I installed both systems myself and have had no problems with either in over 20 plus years of driving.

I have a scar on my right leg where I burned it on a Hooker Side pipe on a 1967 C2 thirty years ago. My wife means too much for me to expose her to a burn like I got.

Noise is Noise, it just seems louder as we age.

I've had both Hooker's and Doug's. Both had minor fitment problems. Overall, Doug's are a better quality.
I believe they both sell 3 different insert mufflers. Quietest is fairly restrictive. The middle one is a little restrictive, but not too loud. The loudest one is less restrictive (bigger straight through open center pipe) but Harley loud. It's all a trade off.

I have stainless Hookers with STS baffles. Mine are the older STS baffles with the freeze plug installed over the middle tube. Mine is loud but not obnoxious. I can drive it for hours with the top down without earplugs.

I think the new STS baffles come without the freeze plug. I can't find the thread now, but someone added a removable cap to them, making it a simple matter to change between performance and comfort.

These is the factory option for 69's. I have them on my 68. Will fit any C3 as far as I know. Hedman Hedders makes headers that are designed just to fit these side pipes. The factory sidepipes are now expensive but still available. The sidepipe shells are an aluminum alloy that is chrome plated..
