Hi, I was looking at a friends "79 that has some starting issues, looking around the engine bay I can't find a bonding cable or earth strap between the motor and the chassis. Did the '79's have one hidden away on a bell housing bolt or elsewhere? We had no way of lifting the car at his place so was unable to look around underneath.
FWIW the car started perfectly while I was there, looking at the wiring a PO has added a relay to the start circuit from the key switch, I assume the '79's were like my '70 and a direct feed from the keyswitch to the starter originally?
Bonding cable. Boat guy? Comes down to it, any place you can get to the frame and the block you can add the ground cable.
Well with all that fibreglass they have a lot in common with boats, the only thing missing is the sacrificial anodes to minimise corrosion but come to think of it the zinc die cast water neck acted as one on my '70 when the PO never put corrosion inhibitor in the coolant He figured that because he garaged it all the time it didn't need antifreeze Maybe a sacrificial anode is what the bird cages needed.
