!978 C3 350 crate motor operating temp?
Bought the 78 in Dec. 2019, runs great and has never boiled over. Never need to add coolant. Old gauges shot so went with new Dakota digital at same time as vintage air upgrade. Professional install. 350 crate, mildish cam, electronic ignition, four barrel Headers and straight dual exhaust, no cat. According to the gauge she runs 215 to 220 most of the time. On the interstate at sustained speeds near 80 she gets up near 230, cools off quick once I let all off the throttle. Normal?
Thanks
Dave
While in P run your engine up to about 3k and hold it there for a minute, check to see if your lower radiator hose could be collapsing
Check radiator cap to see if its good
Timing...is it on the money? Too retarded can make it run hot same with too much
Had to put a spring in my lower hose noticed one day while timing it (at 3k) within 30 sec it would collapse and heat up
Should run nice and cool at hwy speeds....another thing is once a yr it would be good to take a garden hose, blow the fins out from the backside. youd be surprised at how plugged up they can get
