Default Rear Spring Re-lining

I've seen kits to reline the metal leaf springs. How are the springs held together and has anyone done this before?

Try posting this over on the "Factory Correct Restoration" forum, go to the main page and it is one of the choices available. I know that Juliet Page has relined her spring, in fact she might have some pictures posted on her website. I just looked here is the link to her spring rebuild. http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/1970...rearspring.htm

You beat me to it Steve. Thanks. The old bolt holding the leaves together needs to be cut off to get them apart. Use clamps to hold the leaves together before you go cutting it because they're sprung together. When nested, the centers need to be squeezed down tight to get the new bolt back in. I used 2 big C-clamps and gradually tightened them up one side at a time to squeeze it all back together with the new bolt. Be sure to thin down the head of the replacement bolt (available from GM BTW) because it's a big honking tall thing which doesn't fit up into the recess in the rear cover. Also then saw off the extra from the thread side (they bolt comes waaaay long on purpose) and hammer the threaded end to maul it up so that the bolt definately can't back off.

Nice pix, Juliet. It's really a pretty simple job to do. Notice that the leaves are painted gray, BEFORE the new liners are put in. Although SOME disagee, most agree that the leaves were "dip painted" in some special gray paint, the name escapes me at the moment. If you take original springs apart, you'll see this original thick gray paint between the leaves. Chuck
