Default 1977 speedometer not working, moving, stuck

Noticed my speedometer is not moving and stuck in at around the 100mph mark any idea what it could be?

Thanks

Try the cable first. It has to be correctly plugged in on both ends.

As there is no actual physical connection between the cable and the speedo needle, I doubt it's a cable issue.

When I had my speedo out to repair, the grease in all locations had dried and hardened. Perhaps it's only a lubrication problem.

If you removed the cable at the trans end and spun it "clockwise", that might return the needle back down and free up any obstruction. Otherwise, you may need to remove the speedo and see what is wrong. Not a pleasant job.

Would it make sense that if the odometer works but not the needle then its an obstruction? if both the needle and odometer do not work then its a cable gear problem? does this make sense? or is everything connected?

does anyone have the tear down illustration of the speedo and cable? thanks

(Would it make sense that if the odometer works but not the needle then its an obstruction?)
Yes, that is correct. The odometer part is directly connected to the cable thru a series of gears. The needle is driven by a spinning magnet in proximity to a metal cup.

(if both the needle and odometer do not work then its a cable gear problem? )
Yes, however in this case, the needle should remain at "0", as the needle has a watch/clock type spring holding it at "0". The spinning magnet overrides the spring.

Below is a picture of my speedo, completely disassembled.
