OK, here, I have the poly adjustable struts from VBP for some time now, on my second set of poly bushings in fact, and since my car is a '72 and was stock when I got it, I just reused the '72 lower srut bracket....been fine really, BUT.....I know the bracket on say a '64 vette is quite a bit shorter and of course higher.....
every reference I have seen referrs to the old mid-year first design....
BUT the question is....what are the differances between the VBP strut bracket and the stock '72 vette bracket??? anything significant....
I know my struts are NOT parallel to the 1/2 shafts....but that's not necessarily a bad thing, I know...but never played with it....aligned it and left it alone....
I believe that the VBP Smart Strut bracket allows the strut rod pivot point to be even with the pivot point of the universal at the Side Yolks. This cuts down on the camber change as the wheel travels up and down. Unfortunately, I threw away my old bracket away before actually comparing them, but I know the secret to the smart struts is the bracket which cuts down on camber change while the wheels travel up and down.
I was wondering the same thing the other day. I just got my GT kit & did a quick comparison with the mount from my 70. The lenght was the same but the strut rod mount seemed slightly lower. I'll measure later today. Don't have the digital camera home so I can't post pics till next week.
Took some measurements. On the original bracket the adjustment slots are horizontal at approx 121/4" center to center. Slots are approx 1/4" below the mounting plate. On the VB&P bracket the slots are cut verticle 12 5/8" center to center and adjust from approx 7/8" to 1 1/2" below the bracket. The verticle adjustment is to change the inclination angle of the struts. The adjustable strut rods change the camber.
When I installed mine a year or so ago, VB told me that the vertical slot adjustment would allow tuning of camber change in a turn. I set mine at mid point and it seems fine.
