I have been working on my 71 vette for a while. The horn has been driving me nuts and I even relented and had my mechanic look at it. I have a telescoping / tilt column, I replaced the contact plate / shim and the horn relay. The horn will kick on and stay on if I accelerate quickly of decelerate quickly. Twice now I have had to pull over and disconnect the horn to stop it from blaring. Thoughts anyone?
I can't imagine the number of horns matters for this problem. The horn(s) is/are powered by a horn relay. Either a connection is being made inside the steering column when there shouldn't be, or the relay coil is energizing from an electrical short elsewhere.
It seems that this problem is originating with the horn button on the steering wheel, but one can't be sure of that without diagnosis. I suggest removing the horn button, and then driving as before to see if the problem still occurs.
