Sorry to sound like such a rookie. I am not very familiar with the C3's. I am about ready to put this on the market, and it has the L88 on the hood. It is a 1979. I know enough about this generation to believe that this is more than likely not an L88. I don't have the car with me at this point. It is in storage. So I can't provide any other pics, sorry. Any help pointing me in a direction would be greatful! Thanks

I would be more inclined to believe L-82. Take a closer look.

There are only two engine options for that year the L-48 base engine and the L-82 upgraded engine. Do you have a picture of the engine?

Look at 5th digit in the VIN.
8=L-48
4= L-82

If someone can take a picture for you, get them to shoot the engine stamp just ahead of the passenger-side head, under the AC compressor.

If original, the last few digits of your VIN will be stamped there, along with a three-letter engine suffix that states what engine it is, and what transmission came with it.

It's hard to see from that image, but a single snorkel air cleaner is stock for an L48, dual snorkel for an L82, in 1979.

That site also has other codes you can check.

Good luck! Black 79s are favorite!

Engine suffix code is on the pad. Jot down the numbers.

That's looks like a long hood; all OE L88 hoods are short. No '79 came OE w/ a Big Block or L88 (one of many Big Block Chevy motors).
Aftermarket Badges, Emblems & Hoods abound; make em look like whatever ya want.

As said, get the numbers of the motor's ID pad at passenger side, just forward of head.

If you look at an L-82 emblem for an angle, and when the pixels start to blur, the 2 can look like an 8.

The engine in that car does not look big enough for a L-88, and all the stuff you can see screams stock. Maybe the hood is not, but it may be.

All 79s had the dual snorkel. In 78 there was a single for the L48 and dual for the L82.

Thanks for the correction! Now it annoys me even more that the PO of my car put in an open element air filter, and threw away the dual snorkel.
