new engine backfires....fixed!!
I found the problem...it was a bad set of spark plug wires. They were brand new, just bad. Thank you to all who responded, it was a great help. It is so nice to be able to get so much help when you need it. Thank you again.

congrats! new, BAD, plug wires?? Along with all the other new stuff, that sounds like a problem that could have taken ages to uncover while you tore apart the carb, distributor and other stuff!! :rolleyes: :rolleyes: MJ

yeah, let it be a lesson: always be carefull what parts you use.
I've had so many problems using cheap aftermarket parts thinking...."well its just a thermostat housing...how could they screw that up?".
Always use a brand you can trust....
