Regular vs. Synthetic Oil

So what is your opinion on using Regular Oil vs. Synthetic Oil in your C3?

I have a new engine in my 72 with only a 1000 or so miles on it. The engine-builder suggested I change over to synthetic at 5000 miles and I intent to do so.

after i put about 4000 miles on my new engine i started using royal purple synthetic oil.i would definetly recommend synthetic over standard oil.

I prefer regular oil.

From my understanding, synthetic oils lack detergents to clean the engine. So, if you have a new engine, or a really old engine, regular oil is better IMO.
