Just wanted to introduce myself. My bro. just bought a 1976 Stingray on Ebay for $13k, but due to several complications he might try to return it or I might consider swapping my Acura 3.0 for it. Yes, I fell in love with it. Its beautiful but it has several problems and Its been sittin in a garage because the damn thing wont even turn on.
However, the car had a few more flaws that the owner misdescribed.
The main that I have seen is the exterior has rust on a few spots, the Interior was in bad shape. All the gauges were lose and wires hanging out of everywhere. The rugs were not new. It didnt have a SONY cd player. I have not taken it to a corvette specialist yet but the car was stalling the second we got it, the mufflers were spittin flames, and like he mentioned the factory transmission needs to be rebuilt due to all the performance upgrades. $13,000? What do you guys think?
Can someone give me an estimate on how much it would cost to rebuild the tranny for racing. Its an automatic. Or can someone recommend a good places in the NYC area I can get this done?
Congrats first of all....and welcome........Now for the real news....If the car does not meet what it was advertised as do NOT take delivery of the car..I have seen some real Ebay nitemares.....It looks great.but if it is not as advertised I would NOT take delivery....Sounds like some major problems to me..... :nonod:
FEEDBACK.............. If you like it, keep it, but be prepared for the worst case scenario....i.e.......bearings needing rebuilt, window regulators being rusted out, etc....all of these things could cost several hundred, if not thousands of dollars to repair.... If the car is not as described, don't take it....typically, that car is not close to being worth that much unless it is in outstanding condition. In my opinion, if that is the type of car you want, buy something much cheaper and do the custom stuff yourself. That way, you know what you are starting with and you know what you are getting in the long run. If the car is in as bad a condition as you state, it can only get worse....Good luck and welcome to the forum... :conehead
I left a few things out. A th350 transmission is pretty common and probably one of the cheapest to rebuild. I have a dude that will rebuild those all day long for $250 a pop, but you can usually expect to spend at least twice that(and that includes you doing the removal in install). The car looks pretty good in the pics. I just hope it's nice up close. By the way, I was always a Chevy guy, but never really got excited about Corvettes. I've gone through several (SEVERAL) hot rods and have been building my 1979 Corvette for the past couple of years and after having this one, I don't think I will ever part with it(except for an upgrade to a chrome bumper car). The short of it is this, Corvettes are a whole different breed. I'd be proud to drive the car in the pictures, but like I said in my previous post, your brother spend way too much money for it-in my opinion. If you can't recoup the money, just keep it, take the fact that you paid too much for it, then forget about it. Drive the car and you will be hooked- most likely enough to forget that you paid too much for it. Good luck.... :conehead
Thanks for the feedback. I hope everything works out for my bro. I'll try to work something out with the seller and maybe I can get him to refund a couple thousand bucks in order to avoid legal issues. :smash: I'll def. take it off my bro's hands then.
Ebay supposedly has purchaser insurance so we will see how this turns out. Either way, the vette has gained a new fan over here. :chevy:  I'll keep checking this thread in case anyone wants to add to this. The more feedback the better.
