Default Headers

I am needing some information on a set of ceramic headers for under $500 that will fit on my 1979 L82 semi stock engine. I have true dual exhaust with no emissions equipment. I am looking for medium or long tube that will bolt on and I only need to tie into my existing 2” exhaust system. Thanks

I’ve run both Dynomax and Hooker super comes on my 71. They both worked well, although you needed some special brackets for the alternator. I recently put in a big block and really like the Hedman headers with a ball and socket collector connection.

I have Hedman on my 72' and they fit perfect...plugs easy to get to.
You will need a bracket for the A/C

I have Hooker Super Comp Ceramic Coated headers on my '73 L-82.. No installation issues whatsoever. If your '79 has A/C you will need to modify/replacae the A/C bracket. Modification instuctions are included.

I used Flow Tech from Summit. Ceramic coated, look and fit great. Highly recommended to me from the local Vette Guru and he was right!

Summit headers are the best fit by far. But don't come coated. But they are only 135bucks. Paint them

Well you won't get Hooker Super Comps for $500, try $850 coated. Patriot and Flow Tech look good though for that price.

There are many choices of headers for small blocks.
Some things to consider over cost is primary tube diameter.
The design needs to match your build.
Primary tube wall thickness and flange thickness if you want them to last.
Ceramic coated for heat reduction and protection from the elements.
Collector diameter and whether or not you want standard or ball and socket type flanges.
Last but not the least is ground clearance.
Buy good quality and they will last years.

I forgot to mention FlowTech also have great ground clearance. You can spend double but I dont't think you'll get a better header, they're just not a big name. Under $500.
