I am using a Edelbrock 1411 carb with electric choke. The choke properly sets and works fine unless..... you touch the accelerator. It then drops out regardless of engine/choke temp. Seems like the choke adjustment must be darn near totally rich to get it to hold till engine is warm enough to idle. Anybody else have this issue on the 1411 or really any Edelbrock carb with electric choke??
we often have to use a 1 to 5 ohm 10 watt resistor in line on the power to the choke to lower voltage in-order to slow how quick the electric choke opens.

on a normal choke, when the carb is closed it would be totally closed , then once it starts you should be able to tap it and it would open partially....But the edelbrock electrics are either on or off it seems. Tht was my experience. In the summer I would turn the idle screw down and let it warm for a little bit and as the fall came and it was a lot colder out, i turned the rpm up and let it sit for a few minutes. I guess the coil heats too fast. I bought a resistor like the others mentioned from quadrajetparts.com when I went back to my Qjet and converted the choke to electric. It takes several mintues to open and allows the ramps on the choke to work, it may be worth a look.
Ive found that the edlebrock choke is almost useless in the summer unless i want to adjust it. Its typically so hot in my garage in the summer that the choke will heat up pretty quick and come right off.
If you read your edelbrock manual on setting the choke they tell you that you have to adjust the choke differently from summer to winter. As soon as it gets warm out my choke is almost non existent compared to my winter setting.
I dont leave the key on very long at all before starting. She gets three pumps and cranked right away and i dont touch the pedal again and she starts fine and runs on higher idle till i touch the pedal. Being a stick its hard not touch the pedal so you loose the high idle pretty quick.
Periodic readjustment of the choke will be required as the temperature changes throughout the year. It is recommended that you use the notches in the choke housing as a reference, one notch clockwise for rich or one notch counterclockwise for lean. After each adjustment verify that the choke valve opens fully after the engine is warm."

Exact same problem I have with my Edelbrock carb. and choke. Since this is a series circuit, I just made up a resistor link to replace the existing ground connection from the choke to the carb. Starting with a 4.7 ohm 10 watt resistor as this is what I had on hand. Will check the performance as soon as it cools off a bit here in S. CA. Later I will fine tune value, go to a smaller 10 watt resistor size and also sleeve the leads.

Set the choke marker to the center mark but the choke went down to warm idle position within a minute and car was not ready to idle smooth just yet. Moved it almost fully CW and it did seem the fast idle lasted a bit longer and fast idle lever was still engaged. Noticed resistor was getting hot so I will measure voltage across it to see what the power being dissipated is. Next step will be to pull the cap off and see if anything looks out of order or cap is not inserted correctly. Here is the Edelbrock procedure attached for the setup of the choke.
