Fuel tank cleaner. Is there such a thing?
Anyone have a recipe?
Are you talking about adding something to the gas and running it through to clean or are you working with an emptyish tank? My '72's tank needs an empty clean-out and I've been thinking of using rags for the barely 1/2" of old fuel in the bottom followed by acetone.
Dunno what those hard deposits are; dunno what will dissolve them.
If tank out; perhaps a local blasting jobber w/ shells or their recommended media.

dunno? but perhaps ? the deposits are nominal for galvanized steel; where the zinc oxide sacrifices itself and is converted to zinc hydroxide and then to zinc carbonate. Dunno? found the below link
Also, perhaps the white deposit in galvanized steel tank is comparable in both appearance and origin to those white deposits we find in carburetors (which are typically cast of a zinc alloy).

I've tried all sorts of solvents to remove that carb crust with no success.
There have been some articles on the web about cleaning gas tanks with muriatic acid and water but you have to neutralize the acid when you're done so you can dispose of it. Never tried muriatic acid for this particular task but it works well to remove hard deposits from toilets, porcelain tubs, etc.
