The air gap intake was meant for vortec heads. It's one of the few intakes that will work with the vortec heads. The 1.6 rockers will cause the pushrods to bind without modifications. I've got 1.5 on my vortecs.
If you are using the Vortec heads as they come from GM, the way Jegs sells them, you are limited to .450 lift on your cam. Otherwise you need to have the bosses on the heads, where the valve guides are mounted, machined to lower the valve seals. Put better springs on while you are at it. I did all this on my 77 and using an Edelbrock Performer, not the air gap model, everything, including the stock air cleaner, fits under the stock hood.
