Re: q-jet bolts? (78whtshark)
according to the Assembly Instruction Manual for my 1980:
The front two bolts are part numbers 9419047 and the rear are 9419032. They don't list sizes, but you should be able to buy them from GM with those numbers.
Also, ask in the Factory Correct Restoration forum. Click on "Forums" above, then go to General Topics and then Factory Correct.
On my 1980, the front q-jet bolts are 3 3/4" long (shaft length). Bolts are 5/16" with 18 tpi. They are grade 5 with a black oxide finish. The rear bolts were "bubba specials" on the car. I replaced them with 5/16" 18 tpi grade 8 bolts 1 1/4" long (shaft length).
I final located the AIM that I got with the project car.
According to it the front bolts are p/n 3967476 which I have been told are 5/16" x 18 tpi. Don't know where I find them. Dealer help was if they're not metric, he don't have them. At auto parts, I can get 5/16"x 18 either 3 1/2 or 4", no 3 3/4" aircraft grade cadium finish. (I guess, I'll have to check one more time with the local chevy dealer with p/ns, else cut a 4" bolt to 3 3/4" or 1/4" of washers)
Now for the rear bolts, according to the AIM they are nuts p/n 120368 not bolts, the makes sense because there are still are studs in the manifold where the carb was.
Back to getting brakes back on the car, no sense getting the engine running with no brakes. When I get it running, I'll of course want to drive it in the drive way or around the block.
I was able to get stainless steel replacement bolts, all 4, for my 1981 Q-jet, from good ol' Lowes (you know, the "other" Home Depot). Not sure if the E4ME '81 Q-jet uses different bolt lengths than the older Q-jets, but I doubt they're different.
btw, I gently chucked the bolts into my drill press and polished the heads before I installed them. They look really nice that way.
