Looking for L46 4spd Carburetor
I’m looking for a Quadrajet for my 69 L46 4spd. A service carb would be fine. I currently have a carb that the previous owner put on. not a 7029207. It’s a holly something and pretty warn out so rather than rebuild some random carb I thought it would be better to get closer to the appropriate carb for my car.
Honestly any Bolt on solution might be ok with me. I just don’t want to spend money on the old carb that I’m not sure if it’s the right CFM or anything. From what I have read so far the Qjet seems like the best carb for the car. I was thinking of getting a new Holley for it but I don’t want to replace the intake manifold if I don’t have to and it seems like using an adapter will cause hood clearance issues. If anyone here has a rebuilt Qjet or one that is in good condition or knows of a rebuilt company that sells rebuilt Qjets. I would be very interested in buying. I would just get a rebuilt one from eBay but from what Lars has posted in the past that seems like a risky proposition if you are not 100% sure if the rebuilder is legit. I am really pretty open to suggestions so please fill free to chime in your opinions. Price is a factor in my decision.
PS my knowledge is not that great on the subject so please forgive my ignorance, and I did search the threads on the form before I posted so sorry if I missed the thread that would give me the answer that I am looking for and this is a rehashed subject.
Yes, there is a lot of junk QJets out there on the market as Lars pointed out. They tend to be non-rebuildable = a paper weight / display for your workbench.
I take it you have a Spreadbore Intake? Your Spreadbore Intake will mount a Holley Squarebore if it has the proper mount bolt pattern. Stay away from adaptors.
Holleys are easy to work on, parts are abundant and (bias) a great carb. However, from previous readings on this forum, Holleys version of the Spreadbore was a bad idea. Shy away.
The determining factor of which road to go down, would be which type of fuel line set-up you currently have. Lots of people shy away from Holleys due to the modification required to hook-up the fuel supply. In my (bias) opinion, I would buy a Holley rebuild kit if the carb is still decent. YouTube can help you with the surgery.
Its quite easy if everything is laid out on a workbench.

As others have mentioned, a Holley carburetor can be a good place to start with, especially if you will need to change a lot of stuff to get to the original induction system.
Good luck... GUSTO

I also ran a holley spreadbore early on. Ran great with it, hood clearance with the stock hood can be an issue.
I still have that around somewhere.

So.. it looks like the carb I have is a Holley Economaster spreadbore
These are the only #s I can find
the current type of fuel line set-up I currently have is stock.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I also hooked it to the stock fuel line.
You want to try it, just pay the shipping. Was functional when removed, but I would suggest a rebuild since it been off a long time.
