Default oil pressure

good morning,

other question for you:

what is the correct pressure of the oil?
when I start the engine, idle, the arrow in the gauge is more or less in the middle between 0 and 35
when I'm driving the arrow is on 35

is it correct?
in the idle, just to understand, what is the correct level of oil in the valve cover?

last question: any suggestion about the oil to use in my C3 69 350?

thank you in advance

The oil pressure should be about 10 psi per every 1,000 RPM.
The oil is in the oil pan not the valve cover.
Your car should have an oil dipstick with markings on it.
You should use a 10W30 oil with high zinc levels.
In this country Vavoline VR1 10W30 is an example but I do not know what is available in your country.

hi, thank you for your clarification.
the doubt arose from a chat with a friend according to wich there should be a fair amount of oil also under the cover valve. my doubt is: what is the correct level of oil here? just wet, wet or few inches of oil?
other doubt about the correct info received with the gauge... but here your answer is, i guess, complete
thank you

There should not be a few inches of oil in the valve cover. There are oil drain passages under the valve cover which drain the oil back to the oil pan. If these oil drain passages are clogged , you will get a build-up of oil in the valve covers. I suspect your oil drain passages are clogged with oil sludge, this can be caused, mainly, by infrequent oil changes. Take the valve covers off and inspect the passages, they are located at the front and rear of the cylinder heads.

hello, thank you.
probably my poor english, sorry.
in my car, under the valve cover there is a very little oil: the valves are moist and not submerged. if I well understood this is a correct situation. is it true?
thank you

For a 50 year old car your oil pressure is just fine.

You are correct, maybe your friend is thinking of some overhead camshaft engines that have a lot more oil in this area.
