looking for some assistance in identifying what head my engine has. Any chance its stock? I'm still learning the GM world. I've been a Mopar guy till now. The block appears numbers matching to the car but I'm not too familiar with everything else. I'm curious how original my engine setup is. I welcome any feedback good or bad. 1971 350 base
Please take a picture of the engine stamp (highlighted). You can check the numbers and codes at the link below if it came in a Corvette. The last three letters on the engine stamp should be CJL, CGT, or CJK, for a 1971 base 350, depending on the transmission (CJL if that's the original 4-speed). The VIN deriviative will be stamped there, too.
As MelWff said above, to ID the heads you'll have to remove the valve covers. You should see a casting number, a casting date code, and probably stuff like "Pass" or "hi-perf" . I'd look under both covers to see if they are a matching set with the same casting numbers and with close casting dates. The block you have was used from 1969-80. In addition to looking at the stamp pad circled above by Bikespace, look at the casting date for the block too. It's located above the transmission bell housing mounting flange on the passenger side. All three casting dates should be within a month or so of each other but more than that isn't indicative of not being original to the car - unless they're after the build date of the car, that is!
