brake light switch

This is the brake light switch that I have. Is the little bar that rests on the brake pedal supposed to be spring loaded. It rests against the brake pedal bar but doesn't move when I press on the brakes

Yep,,,, there is a spring in the switch. When the spring breaks, the switch doesn't work.
