I'd run this by the manufacturer of the command center to see if they recommend a pre-filter. I've recently converted my '73 to EFI and did quite a bit of research. I have an in-tank pump that goes to a pressure regulator under the hood and from there to the fuel rails. My filter is just before the pressure regulator. I found no recommendations for a pre-filter in my situation. For installations using an inline pump between the tank and the engine, it seemed a pre-filter between the tank and the pump was universally recommended.

My common sense says install an Accessible filter as close to the in-tank pump as is practical.

I agree -- run it by the EFI mfr; unless they can a make a credible argument to Not install the filter, I'd proceed with a filter

I too recently swapped out a pile of carburetors for a Holley EFI system. I did it to my 1968 C3 with its 427 and what a difference.

They sold me a new Holley Fuel Tank Module that had the fuel level sensor and the (WalBro 255 Liter/Hour) fuel pump and (60 psi) Regulator on mounted inside the tank when running. I installed the new module very easily as the 1968 fuel tank has a hole in the bottom of the tank for the fuel level sender. I drained out the tank and had it set up for 58 psi in less than half an hour. One of the nicer parts was they give you a small piece of the new Holley Hydra-Mat to suck the fuel into the system without letting air get into the lines. The Hydra-Mat is a great idea and fairly new so it is expensive.

Since the regulator is inside the fuel tank it eliminates a lot of potential issues. I was planning on replacing my entire fuel tank to get a good tank for the EFI system. The folks who sold me the system told me about the Fuel Tank modules and that saved me another couple hundred dollars. Today the only way to tell if it is EFI or carburetor is to look at the fuel pressure gauge. This exactly what I was trying to accomplish.

HydraMat's a Great idea; It assists pickup while helping to prevent schmutz from entering pump. But

Pump's vanes often fail bit-by-bit; those bits are pushed toward motor and foul things along the way. HydraMat can't affect that.

Hence, suggestion for Accessible filter downstream of pump.

Many/most later model FI pickups/vans have an OE filter mounted mid-truck to hard-line along frame rail; Accessible & easy to buy. Takes a little work.
