I don't want to spend $200+ on new taillights but will, if I can't get these things to sparkle.
I have read multiple posts about different substances to try including toothpaste, 3M Plastic Polish, a Blue Magic cleaner from Advance Auto, Mother's Aluminum cleaner, paint thinner, etc. I have tried most of these with no success. When cleaning, they look great, but when they dry they look bad again.
My question to those who have had success:
Do you separate the lenses from the white plastic assembly when you clean them? Do you use a buffing wheel and buffer? Do you remove the aluminum lense rings?
I feel your pain.....I have no success either. I suppose if one was getting ready for a show, you could put a light coat of cooking oil on the exterior to shine them up temporarily...........Hey, we all have our little tricks!
Check with Eastwood's and see if they have a special plastic polish, I vaguely remember someone using something from them to polish his taillights. It's been a couple of years ago, so my memory may be tricking me.
I REALLY suggest you buy new ones BUT if you cant ,you cant.If you know anyone at a body shop ,you can clear them with some automotive clear.I guarantee they will look like new.You will have to scuff them up with a scotchbrite pad for the clear to stick. You might be able to use some spray can clear .If you do ,use Dupli-color. Anything else probably wont have much UV protectors in it and wont hold its shine for long. :seeya
