Has anyone used Monster Transmissions ? Im thinking about purchasing a 2004r. I have seen no mention on the forum about them. They have a F rating on the BBB

I’ve seen some really poor reviews that align to that BBB rating. As such, I’ve been personally eyeing a 200R4 conversion kit from Trans Depot
Art Carr is still in Ca I believe. ..not cheap but can build anything pretty stout.
TRC trans in Chatsworth has been doing those for yrs none of us could blow one up even behind BB...not sure if he ships though? Guy knows his chit.
I bought a Ford AOD for my big block car from Monster and it never worked right. After about 8 months of frustration I took it to L&R transmission in Winston-Salem and they rebuilt it right, adjusted the TV cable, test drove the car three times to get it dialed in right. I have a GPS on the car and knew exactly where they went and how fast. They treated my car like it was their own. The tranny runs flawlessly two year later.
The real art carr has a shop called California performance transmission. Make sure if you're looking for a 200 4r that that's the guy you go to he sold his old business and they no longer have the reputation.
I’ve been looking at Monster too. They have pretty good pricing on 200-4r packages. Although that is what has made me a little nervous. There are quite a few bad reviews out there on YouTube as well. Bowtie Overdrives has an excellent reputation as far as I can tell.

Don't do it. I've done a LOT of stupid things in my life. None has topped the experience with Monster Transmissions. To top it off, I'm local and dealt with them in person. Go elsewhere even if it costs more.
Been running a Monster 700r4 for 4 years behind a 383 with HP and Torque well over 400 without any problems. I may be the only one but I've got no complaints.
I went to a local trans parts supply house and bought all the heavy duty parts for my 200 4r and rebuilt it myself .......I have a nice large engine oil cooler set up in front of the radiator, behind the condenser it cools the trans just fine by itself.....
I had Monster Transmission build a SS Xtreme 4L80E for my Vette. The transmission is behind a 632 that makes about 900hp. The transmission has been in use for a bit over a year with no issues. The car is typically street driven, but has been a 10.09 1/4 mile with street tires, pump gas and crappy Texas air.
Earlier this Summer I had a local performance transmission shop add a trans brake to my transmission. The shop confirmed that the transmission had very good internal components and should hold up to big power ( 1,100hp) as advertised.
I too was apprehensive to purchase from Monster, due to mixed reviews, but have been very pleased with my purchase.

You got lucky. They may have been a good honest shop at one time. I'm not so sure about now though. The transmission they sold me was actually built by an Ebay manufacturer. Verified. Notice the green torque converter. Notice the serial number. The warranty paperwork provided by Monster was actually from the Texas rebuild that sold on Ebay. They verified it as their transmission by the serial number and the build specs were nowhere near what I ordered and paid for. Also...im local and picked it up in-person at their dock. I'm honestly glad you got a good one...i couldn't recommend them to anyone though.
There is a reason they have so many complaints. i understand that automatic transmissions are tough business, but these guys take the cake

Very sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience with Monster. Have they ever made it right?
Nothing. I have 2 months of emails, and countless phone calls from mid 2019. They literally resold me a stock build ebay transmission for the price of a custom. They took an extra month to do so beyond what was originally promised. They difference between the eBay trans and what I paid was about $500. When I realized I wasnt getting anywhere even with threat of small claims court, I put the transmission in and chalked it up as an expensive lesson. I had already dropped my core off at their shop so my Suburban had already been out of service over a month. I figured that I did at least have a 3 year warranty through the people that really did it...hopefully they are still around
Lesson learned..and thank you. I truly am glad you got a good one.
My brother in Illinois bought a Monster C4 with trans brake for his 71 Maverick SBF 10.50/6.70 car starting leaking immediately out of the speedometer housing , mix match pan bolts, started leaking out of the front pump after one season of tune and tests , when I got it here in Ohio. It was a V8 version ( more clutches than a 6 cylinder version) and had a hardened input shaft welded to a drum but otherwise nothing special. It came to me with a wiped pump bushing and Converter flange , burnt high gear clutches and was nothing really special. I rebuilt it with better drums with more clutch capacity, new 300m shaft not welded to the drum , sent the Converter our to Frank Luppo’s and just gave it a good performance overhaul. 5 seasons later it still works like new and don’t leak . I give Monster a big thumbs down , it’s a lot of money for a only hardened input shaft and trans brake
