The merits and demerits of solid motor mounts have been discussed to death and I have read quite a few posts on the subject. When looking at the Moroso website for part number 62530 for my '69 SBC, Moroso states:
"Solid Motor Mounts must be used in conjunction with Solid Transmission Mounts to prevent breakage of engine block and transmission case due to torsional stress."
Hmmm...not sure what to think. I would be running solid motor mounts and a rubber trans mount. Thoughts?
For that reason (using solid tranny and engine mounts) i was adviced Not to! I have solid steel Moroso engine mounts and oem tranny mount new... No problems so far, i do like my solid motor mounts with the 383...
Maybe I am just reading this the wrong way? Maybe they are saying if you use a solid trans mount you MUST use solid engine mounts which absolutely make sense. I think I was reading this as Moroso saying that if you use solid engine mounts you must then use a solid trans mount which doesn't make sense.
If You have solid steel motor mounts, and solid steel transmission mount, then the vibration of the engine gets directly transfered onto the the solid transmission mount of which transferes it to the weakest point where it screwed on the cast housing and the cast can eventually brake under this stress. If the transmission mount has a rubber cushion to absorb some of the vibrations, so they are not directly transfered to the cast casing then this should be better... At least that what i was told and it makes sense to me...
it's the tension that tears up rubber mounts; if you must, why not put a solid on driver side only?
Also a possibility. The current rubber mounts have not failed...they are just from 1989 when the engine was rebuilt. I do have a set of poly...but with the two piece design the power steering bracket will be pushed out about an 1/8th altering the pulley alignment. Maybe not enough that can't be absorbed by the designed play in the PS shaft...but misaligned nonetheless.
The semantics of the imprecisely written Moroso statement have been beaten to death before.
I don't know if there is consensus on this Forum, but my understanding is that solid motor mounts are fine with a rubber trans mount, and this is likely the preferred solution. If you have a solid trans mount, you then MUST use solid engine mounts. I have solid Moroso mounts, and a rubber trans mount.

Its funny how I read it as you MUST have a solid trans mount if you have solid motor mounts...then I realized it was the other way round. Thanks for the confirmation.
Agree. Poly engine, rubber trans here; had poly trans mounts and got vibration issues, trans guy beat it through my head to stick a rubber trans mount in there, problem solved
Has to be some "give" somewhere.
