I have a 78 c3 and it has a charcoal canister like this.
But I want to use one like this in order to reduce vacuum lines for a more clean look.
So what I'm wondering is do I need to get a whole new canister like the second one or can I block off certain ports on the one I have to reduce the lines to equal that of the second one?
Not really sure why you feel you need one at all. Some on here claim they get gasoline fumes in their garage without one. I haven't had one on my car in years. Haven't noticed any strong fumes. And NONE lines to it. Vent line from tank can be pointed towards the ground.
Yes, just have it pointing down, so any moisture drips out. Let it vent to the atmosphere. It's a long hose. I really never notice any fumes. And yes I have an attached garage.
Do you have inspections and emission testing in your state? you might need to have the canister and the vac lines hooked up so it depends. I have a 78 L82 and removed all the unneeded stuff therefore I capped all the nipples except the fuel line.

Same her. Disconnected for more years than I care to remember.
When I first bought my '73, I had gas smell in the garage but the vapor canister was missing. I found a new one and installation solved the gas smell. The '73 and earlier canisters are no longer available (they had three ports). My vapor canister failed recently and I replaced it with a canister listed for a 1974 which is also used on a lot of other Chevrolet vehicles. It's still available and only has 2 ports. They also sell a separate purge valve if you think you need it. Search for some of my older posts for more info. Here's a link to the '74 canister:
I don't have emissions testing so that won't be an issue but what it sounds like is I can cap the 2 ports that go to the carb and basically have the same thing as the 3 port ones.
