Default A6 Compressor Superheat switch question

It seems up to 1971 there was no superheat switch on the factory A/C A6 compressor. So, also no wire on the original harness for a superheat switch, which did not appear until 1972.
Most if not all of the re-manufactured A6 compressor units come with the superheat switch.
Can I run one of these compressors and just not have power going to the superheat switch? Will the compressor operate without?
Would there be any issues besides the the compressor not shutting off if refrigerant gets low causing heat build up? (which I understand is the reason for a superheat switch).
Thanks!

Sorry I can't answer your question but I have a 73 with a Pro6TEN Compressor with the superheat switch that I purchased from Old Air Products. I have never understood what the superheat switch does or how it works and I haven't put the AC system into service yet. I hope one of the AC gurus on the forum can answer your question and explain how this sytem works.

Never heard of a superheat switch and when I search the interweb, there are a lot of guys talking about them, but I can't find an explanation of what it does. Now I'm curious.

I am surprised you haven't got a response to your question yet. There are some pretty savvy forum members on this site but maybe this one has everyone stumped. Might want to try posting on one of the auto ac forums such as https://www.autoacforum.com/

see post 2

and post 3
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...wires-a-c.html

my guess is its a heat fuse switch..gets hot..blows fuse..stops clutch.. only 72 and 73?

so i would say do not connect it and go
