Im converting my manual to power brakes on my ‘68 and I am trying to remove the push rod from the brake pedal. I took the clip off and now when I try to slide the pin out it hits a metal plate that surrounds the brake pedal on both side. How do I get this pin out?
On my 69 pedal assembly there was a black rubber bumper that the pedal arm would rest against in the all the way UP position. Try removing that bumper for a lil more room in the full up position because I recall the bottom of the pedal assembly slopes up as it comes toward the seat.
I recall the clevis pin staying in the clevis and moving over just enough for it to slip off the pedal arm but still in the clevis hole itself if you understand what I am saying.
I also recall pushing on the pedal some to get just a lil more room. It a pain... i hate working under the dash... getting older and fatter hasn't helped me any.
I gave up for now. This was literally an all day affair as I started at 9am thinking it will take me two to three hours. Its now 7pm and that damn clevis pin has not budged
So starting fresh in the morning I was able to wrench it out by pushing the pedal as far back as it would go and bending it toward the clutch. The new pin actually went in easy from the other side and the cotter pin dropped right in. Fingers crissed but I am making progress
The power brakes are done and to be honest, other than the pin from hell I didnt have any other issues. I put the new pin in from the opposite direction and it went right in. The new pin used a cotter pin which was easy to fit. I did pull the steering wheel and seat then just laid on my back in the foot well.
