Hi all, Here’s a little backstory before my latest problem: my wife has owned her 1969 coupe with a 427/4spd since 1985. We restored it, drove it, then parked it off and on. About 11 years ago, we parked it in my shop, I got a job out of state and the car sat until we sold our house and brought the car to our current house. It’s still in great shape but as you can imagine needs work after sitting. I’m replacing the entire fuel system and everything is fine except the tank. The original was unsavable so I ordered a CPP repo. It looked correct but isn’t even close to fitting. So my question is, I need another tank, what brand fits best? I had the original tank out years ago when I rebuilt the engine so I know it’s a challenge but this one isn’t even close. Any tips? Thanks in advance.
QUANTA. (www.gastanks.com). They have the rights to the original O L Anderson products. Be sure to specify whether or not you need the return line fitting.
Thanks, I do have one question: I noticed it’s listed as 20 gallons, while a Tanks Inc. repo is listed as 18 but the dimensions are the same. The CPP I bought is also listed as 20 gallons. Are there different sizes? Everywhere I look I see only one choice for the 390 horse 427. If you guys are sure there’s only one, I’ll spring for the OEM style. Just don’t want to pile a $265 mistake on top of my current $120 mistake.
It is my understanding that the tank is dimensionally capable of holding 20 gallons but due to differences in the filler neck among the model years the useable capacity can vary. Talk to Quanta directly for their inputs but I am sure have no issues buying from them.
There are two tanks for 69, one goes up to July production and a different one starting in August.
You need the production date.
They are both listed as 20 gallons.
