i would like to switch out my 3.07s for some 3.73s, where would i order new gears and what is all this talk about ford 9" rear ends, what is the most affordable way to go.
You can Buy the Gears from http://www.summitracing.com or http://www.jegs.com...I did the same change and I am QUITE happy with the results....It would be much cheaper to change the gears vs changing the entire REAR :yesnod:

How much of a job is involved with just changing the gear, and would someone who has never done that before be able to do it or would you get some help?
Most axle/gear shops can order a fresh set of Spicer gears for your differential. I think the set for my differential were $150 plus the charge to remove and then install/blueprint the new configuration. Allan's Gearworks in Tampa, FL performed my swap and very happy with the results. No complaints, the gears are silent and the parts/labor included a guarantee.
