I think he needed a bigger fuel rail. ;)
and NAWS -- Both bottles !!
Reminds me of a trip to the track about 4 years ago. I was in my Mustang which at the time was running 11.0s. Out of nowhere this ricemobile cuts in front of me in the staging lanes. I just kind of gave 'em a "what was that?" wave...nothing really antagonizing. His punk friend says (and I kid you NOT, this is verbatim), "If you cut your motor in half, his car would beat yours". I was so caught off-guard by the stupidist statement I've heard in my 34 years, that I didn't even have time to laugh. I said, "No buddy, if I cut my motor in half I would still have 275hp at the wheels...so you would get beat no matter what". :D The guy just kind of stared at that point. I got to race him and ran 11.2 @ 128mph and he ran a 15.xx. After shifting into 4th (at ~800') I reached over and hit the hazards and left 'em on the rest of the way...couldn't help it.
I don't want to go too far off on a rant, but I just shake my head at this stuff. I am not that far removed from the generation who is really infatuated with these cars. A number of the 18-22 yr olds at my church love these things. I just don't get it.
When I was in HS ('82-'86) the cars to have were the 5.0 Mustangs/F-bodies and in '86 the Grand National. Granted these were expensive, and not affordable to most HS students, unless your parents anted up. But the coolest cars were the mid-70s V8 cars that some guys bought. Who cares how fast they were...back then if it ran 15s it was fast.
Point is, I don't understand why these younger folks don't pick up an early, mid-90s Mustang/F-body and tool around in that. It sure beats 94HP. I guess insurance on one of those is a lot more than a Honda Civic with a "coffee can" exhaust pipe that could suck up a small dog.
That being said, there are a number of turbo'd VTECs around here now that are in the high-12s on sticky tires. And these are real street cars. The race cars are in the 10s...of course, the V8 full-bodied race cars are in the 7s-8s. That's what I keep telling these guys.

o thats a good one, im gonna use that at school tomorow, thanks man, hope its not copyrighted
the thing i'm noticing around here is all these guys that create their own little clubs or something. do you guys see this? now, i've seen a few that are done fairly well and i don't care if it's a camaro or a civic, if it's done well i can appreciate that. what i'm talking about is these custom made sticker on the windows that say 'immaculate creations' or 'serious impressions' or some other crap like that.
whatever

harsh emmissions laws in cali made the choices other young people had everywhere else nearly impossible becuase a 68-78 camaro and its comtemporaries was either too expensive, or flat out illegal in pure go-fast form.
Plus, these kids wanted to identify with their own heritage a bit ( Japan) and i think the basic mentalty of the ricer was born. Odd thing is that it spread like wild fire! Why, becuase a used Honda Civic is cheap and fairly well built as compared to a Chevy Cavalier or Dodge Neon. The Japanese have a reputation for being high tech and we all know the current thinking has people hating American cars in general( alot young people simply hate American cars).
It quickly became more hip and cool to be seen in a 96 CRX with fart can, stickers and park bench wing then to drive a Camaro SS with over 300 ponies at the rears.
I feel sorry for these poor slave-to-stupidity and fashion kids. But, alot of newer pony cars had less then desirable build quality and older ones were simply not smogg legal in the golden state. Ford,GM and Chrysler cant seem to stay ontop of their game in terms of giving young people what they want ( anyone getting a 2003 Camaro?). Once young people are convinced American cars are of any quality then we may see this trend reverse.

I'm scared...........
I would understand more if the people would take just a little time to understand what they are doing. Putting a huge wing on a fwd vehicle... Don't they get it??
Just my opinion.

i have a story about this, i know a couple ricers doing about the same thing to their, you guessed it, Honda's. one is a '94 Integra LS (actually acura, but made by honda) and the other is a civic. both of them are installing LS-Vtec motors, which are supposed to be great in the rice world. the guy with the civic kept saying how paying $4000 for the used 140hp motor and whole shabang wasn't bad. and based on rice-prices out there its isn't. but i shut them up pretty quick when i said, "Well, i could have spent $3000, and gotten a 330hp LT1 with 6-speed transmission." they just shrugged and looked at me like i was the bad guy. they are both cool guys, they are just mis-lead. the guy with the civic is also doing a turbo later on, which will make for a 12-13 second car, so not bad, but he had no reply when i asked him "Well i throw a turbo on my V8, and then well race. Sound fair?" The guy with the Integra likes new camaros and vettes, but hates being spanked by them. so not all ricers are stupid, just mis-lead.
Stickers (modern day graffiti, IMHO), "shopping cart" wings, fart can exhaust tips, etc.
Anything that is supposed to draw attention and make it look racey, but does nothing to add performance is considered "rice". I'm not talking about tasteful paint jobs, and even some of the more subtle body kits.
I saw a "picnic table"/"shopping cart" rear wing on a Viper once at a car show. I just laughed out loud. It was the stupidist thing I've ever seen. That was the epitamy of rice.
Next to it was an 850rwhp late model Supra turbo. That was a REAL, late-model hot-rod. Very cool car. Nothing ricey about that car at all.
Just b/c its made in Japan doesn't make it rice, and just b/c its made in the US doesn't mean it can't be a ricer. :) At least not _today_. Where it all started may be something different altogether and I'll defer to that.
I just don't understand why an 18yr old guy wouldn't want a 5.0 Mustang or an LT1 F-body to start with. It will cost a lot less than a new Civic Si, and if you look hard enough you can find them in good shape, not abused. While it may not be "new", it will be much faster and a more reliable "racer" than the alternative. I do understand why these guys can't afford vintage muscle cars/Vettes...they are too expensive for most of the population, much less a teenager.
