Default Power Antenna wiring Grommet

82 Corvette - Limited edition.

I am replacing my power antenna with a new one. I have everything out and ready to swap. My replacement antenna has the same
plug as the OEM where you plug it in behind the rear speaker.

I'm wondering how folks have been able to get the wires through the body grommet as the plug will obviously not fit through that hole? From the looks of it,
I can either splice the wires (prefer not to do that) or splice the grommet and use gasket or rubber sealant to seal it back together after placing the wires
through the side. Anyone done this before? Am I missing something

Any wisdom appreciated.

Slice the grommet.
Probably not even necessary but any kind of superglue really works well on rubber to reseal it.

Great, so it sounds like splicing the grommet is the solution. Wonder how they fused it during production?

Thank you!
