I replaced my oil pressure line this weekend and found a bulb that wasn't attached to anything behind the instrument gauges cluster. I tried looking in the AIM, but no luck. The bulb has a green wire and a pink wire. When I turned on the interior lights, it didn't come on. There were not missing bulbs (that I noticed) in the panel. Does anyone know what the green and pink bulb goes too?
IIRC the door ajar might have been pink as well as the seatbelt warning, don't recall much that was green though, any chance its light blue?
Headlight warning was dark green (striped?) but not with a pink...
I can check my diagram when I get home

It is definitely pink wire and green wire. I just remembered the PO replaced the wiring harness. So, there is a chance the colors are off. Hmmm
Also, there is a bulb in every spot on the small instrument cluster. I have no lights in the center console for the shifter or a/c controls. Could it go there?
On the 72, the only green (light green) to a light is for the hi-beam indicator, single wire, case is grounded
Pink is on Door Ajar with a light blue and parking brake light with a Tan
Maybe the harness is from a later year or a "universal" one

In the '70 & '71 diagrams I have, the only lamps in the cabin with 2 wires are:
Courtesy - OR & W
Heater - B & GY
Door Ajar - P & LBL
Headlights Door - W/DG/DBL & LBL
Park Brake - P & T
Glove Cmprtmt - B/OR & B
I don't see anything with a green & pink (then again this is not for a "72)
2 quick silly questions:
1) Was the lamp ground OK when you tried to test it?
2) Has your color vision been checked lately?
Paul
I didn't check the ground or do anything more than identify the mystery bulb. I put it on a future to-do list and planned to do a little research first.
As for my vision, no, but I think I'm still good with colors.

I'm starting to think this isn't the correct year harness or a universal on. I might have to track backwards. Might help to get my door ajar working first, just to make sure it doesn't have anything to do with that. I believe my other cluster bulbs are working. I think this could be for the console, as I have no heater or shifter light in that area.
Not being totally familiar with every option offered in 1972, could the extra bulb be for an option not included in your specific build? AC, Automatic transmission, etc?
Just a thought.
Here's another theory . . .
I too have an extra bulb, just hanging out behind the center cluster. I'm not sure of the wiring color, but it is not functional.
I have a fairly early build 72 (Oct 71). Perhaps they used a 71 harness on our cars? Was there a dash light or gauge present on the 71's that was not used on the 72 model year cars?
If your car is also an early build car, that may be the explanation.
Interesting. My car is equipped with most options (a/c, auto, ps, pw), so I don't think it's that. Seeing that you have the extra bulb, maybe that is it.
Does anyone have a '71 wiring diagram by chance?
Actually, I just thought about something. The PO gave me a box full of parts and I thin the harness he replaced is in there. I'm sure it's the original. Let me take a look at it and see it the socket exists. I'll report back.
The only thing that I'm aware of that the 71 dash had that the 72 didn't, is the push button to turn off the seat belt reminder. I'm not sure if that button was illuminated. This one's got me baffled.
I'll keep an eye on the thread to see what you come up with.
Here's the bulb in question. I did check the original wiring harness and it is not present. So I'm guessing it isn't supposed to be used.
That's the door ajar light - Pink & Blue
Goes in the back of the center console behind the door ajar lens.
If it doesn't come on when your door is open + ignition on then you need to check that your door ajar switches at the rear/back of the door opening are functioning.
