On a V8 engine there is always one cylinder where both the intake and exhaust valves are open together. On a vehicle that is being stored for a long period of time, this can allow air to travel through the intake manifold, down into the cylinder and out the exhaust pipes. (Or vise versa). Thereby drying out that one cylinder. This is why you sometimes find one frozen (rusted) cylinder in an engine that has been sitting for long periods of time.
It's quick and easy to do even if all it really does is keep the mice out of the pipes.

Why not open up the valve cover and loosen that rocker arm till theres no pressure on the valve?
Just a thought... but it wouldn't keep mice out of the tail pipe :jester
