i think i have one in the vette, what are the pros and cons, its a 350 4 bolt main overbored .030, with a 350h cam. we still have to get the car started but my dad told me that before it had little performance in low rpm but tons and tons in high rpms and that he had never pushed it to its limit. also if so then is this block better than a regular corvette block, and what is the major difference in chevy blocks.
In my limited experience, what the original vehicle was is of no consequence when you have a rebuilt engine. Take a truck engine, like yours, add all of the goodies that you desire, from mild to wild, and it doesn't matter where it originated. I think that all blocks are created equal. It was what happens to them after their first rebuild that makes them special. The cam and the heads make a huge difference in a cars output. If you think you have a low power cam and heads then those are easy to change.
If you like the car, like the way it drives, and like the way it looks, then forget about the fact that it has a truck engine.

On some big blocks - 427 & 396 I believe - a truck block meant an additional .40" deck height because they ran 4 ring pistons as opposed to the 3 ring passenger car variety. Also the 'peanut port' truck heads on big blocks are a no-no for performance -
To the best of my knowledge this is not the case in small blocks and as such there is no perceptible difference between a passenger car block and a truck block, apart from any wording cast onto the block surface. So far as truck heads go - they are the Vortech heads - the Vortech head started out as the truck head because of the torque generating capabilities - it later on became the iron head of choice for economy minded builders.
the only big block that had the tall deck were big trucks, like 2 ton trucks or bigger. They had a different distributor that was made for the extra depth.

Re: Truck blocks (gdh)
I just bougt a 4 bolt out of '85 Suburban and it's getting checked out at the machine shop right now then it's going to be reincarnated into a nasty 396 small block. There is only slight diferences in that block compared to my L48.
I am not positive but I don't think there will be any problems installing this motor in my car. The dipstick is on the right side and I think the hole for the clutch ball is in the right place. Hopefully someone else can chime in. :D
I have a 4bolt main block sitting in my garage that came from an 85 truck, passenger side dipstick. It is bored .060. I havent done anything with it yet. In the near future Im going to paint it Tonka toy yellow and put black valve covers on it once the engine is assembled.
