Can someone measure the outside diameter of the hub at the point where it fits into the wheel's central bore? I have a hub that won't fit and want to find out if it is too large or if the wheel's hub bore is too small. The measurement I made is 2.775" OD on the hub; the wheel's ID is 2.765! Any help would be most appreciated!
Larry, what wheels are you using? Is it just one wheel and one hub that's a problem, or is it both front hubs that are the problem?
I good friend was an F-4 RIO back in the mid 70's, 333 out of Beaufort. He went to work for McDonald Douglas back in the late 70's. Worked on the F18 project initially but later moved over to the AV-8B. John Bailey, did you ever run into him? 'Hog Hough' was my boss in the early 90's at MAG-24 also.
Gusto, the hub is for a bench test device I'm building to be able to mount Corvette rims and check for runout. With the oft-reported problems with the C7 GS and Z06 rims, I thought it would be good to test these before mounting on the car. However, the later rims have a 70.3 mm central bore, but the pre-C4 hubs apparently are 70.6 mm (2.775") so this is a flaw in my plan. Now, it's either turn 10 thousandths off this C3 hub or use a later hub/bearing assembly.
VMFA-333 in late 1968 before going to Vietnam in '69. I do recall John Bailey at MCAIR; I test flew in both the F-18 and AV-8B FSD programs.
70.3-70.6 depending on some things I think. I ordered spacers with a 70.3 hub bore, had to hone away the inside just a bit to get them on all the way. Barely just took off a layer of paint.

Larry, you'll need to post up a picture of it when it's done. It sounds like it might be something other C7 folks might want to build. How about just using a C6 or C7 hub?
Did you ever run into a Gene Brown. He should have been around back then. He was the CO of 333 in the mid 70's and later was the CO of one of the Navy training squadrons in Pensacola. John and I did a ground tour together in '78 & '79 in 2nd MARDIV at Lejeune. I took hundreds of pictures of F-4's making 'kodak' runs at Lejeune, looking 'down' into the cockpit from the OP's. The Grunts loved them.
