Looking at aftermarket wiring harnesses for a '77 project I'm interested in getting and notice all the direct fit aftermarket harnesses are only good for up to '76. I know that in '77 a couple gauges changed and the dimmer switch was moved to the column but were there more substantial changes than that to the wiring? Wondering if buying a direct fit harness and modifying a couple pieces would be easier install or if it's different enough to just save the money and get a universal harness? Any advice is much appreciated, thanks!
just to throw a spin on it for you. in 77 there are early and late harnesses. and different for manual and Auto. 4 different harnesses. and not certain where your looking. but they are available. first, look into what you have , an early or a late. then look a little further.
I just looked at Zip Corvettes site. they have them. and I am certain others will as well. lots of differences between 76 and 77. and 77 and 78. do yourself a favor. get the right one.
Should have been more specific, sorry. I can find the stock replacement harnesses. I'm looking for an update/restomod harness like American Autowire, Painless, and others offer.
I am going to start my 76 American Autowire install soon. It has the restomod circuits with spade fuses. Apparently you need the $150 crimp tools too so adding $1100 for the harness it wasn’t cheap. It took 6-7 weeks to get it from summit even though it was listed as in stock.
Ill post a progress update to my thread once I get more done. I have just done a few steps with the vintage air and power wires for the battery disconnect switches. I know this isn’t exactly what you are doing but I’ll keep checking your thread as well and maybe we can learn from each other
not certain exactly what type of mods your running. I can say on my 77. I am running headlight relays, EFI , and electric fans. I run a stock harnesses but with an additional fuse panel mounted on the front side of the passengers footwell. a 4 gauge cable run to it. and wiring to high output alternator, EFI, headlight power, and fans fused through this extra panel. more than one way to skin a Cat.
