Help - Engine rpms would not come down??
I have a 1970 small block with original Q-jet (recently rebuilt by Lars). The motor was also just rebuilt this summer. Car had been running fine since all the parts were put back in it. We had very warm weather this weekend, so I took it out yesterday and today. Yesterday I noticed that after it had been running for only ~1 minute or so, when I tapped the throttle, it completely bogged down....as if no fuel was getting to the motor at all. It didn't die, but the rpms did not go up...seemed to choke or something. Then after another minute...it was all good. Then that happened again today when I took it out. But then, it got weird....it had been running for ~3-5 minutes and when I let off the throttle and put in the clutch (coming up on a stop sign for example), the engine would not come down in rpms...it just stayed at 2000-2500. When I let off the clutch and it slid into gear, then the rpms would come down...but next stop sign, same thing...whenever put in the clutch, the rpms stayed up there...even just when coasting. In fact, one time, I think I was going in gear at ~2100 rpm and when I put in the clutch, it seemed to climb a little further to ~2500 rpm?
Any ideas what could cause this or where I should start looking?
