I just bought a 75 vette. The guy put a new radiator in but broke the fan shroud. Is there a way to "glue or weld" the pieces back together?
Thanks
Fred
I remember reading an article in one of the magazines about the difficulty of getting the radiator out. They gave a tip (if you are't going for NCCR status) to cut the shroud and then use a suitable piece of plastic to make a patch that you bolt on with small bolts. Sorry, I can't remember where it was I saw this, maybe someone else saw it too.
I was just reading another thread on pulling radiator and the last post said his shroud had been cut at the bottom and the plastic ties were used to hold it together.
Before I put on electric fans, mine was cracked. I got some plastic epoxy at a local hardware store that worked really great. It was two part stuff that was in the hypodermic needle type container. It smelled like- plastic and when mixed and hardened, it was plastic. Sorry I can't help with a name but it was specially made for plastics.
Here is how I repaired mine. It was in 4 pieces, I drilled a few holes on each side of the crack or split. I threaded wax string through the holes to get everything lined up then I fiberglassed it. Now you can sand this and ruff it up and paint it flat black and you will have what looks like a new shroud.
The shroud is molded out of Polypropylene witch is hard to glue without a special adhesive. It can be welded back together by heating up a peice of metal and melting it back together. I would not spend the time a just bought a new one.
