Default Front bumper major problem

Good monring,

I'm in the final stage of my 77 frame-off. I just put the body on my new frame. Mine was a 77, rotten and rusted, I bought this frame months ago, it was originally for a 76. From what I know they are the same.

The body fit no problem on it. All body mounts are bolted fine. Now I'm at the stage to reiterate the front bumper.

I'm very surprised to see that the brackets that are bolted to the vacuum cylinder bracket, are too long. On the passenger side, it is 1/2 inch too long. On the Driver's side, it is 1 1/4 too long as you will see in the photo.

Don't know what to do? Help, please.

Denis

There is a lot of adjustment in those arms, the holes in the rear are slotted. Are yours all the way back on the frame.

Yes, two nuts are welded on each side. no they are not all the way back. I guess they are too much forward.

Is this normal? those nuts are welded for a reason, right? Not very easy to reach. I'm I supposed to remove them? but if I do, I will not be able to weld them again.

No, you shouldn't have to remove them, that is where the factory wanted them. Is the gap between the bumper supports and the bumper itself or what? Hard to tell from your photo's. I have a '77 also and when I reassembled it everything went back together fine. I haven't got the body back on yet, but the only place it mounts to the frame up front is at the core support. Did you remove the whole bumper assembly in one piece? If so, you may need to take everything apart and start from scratch.

I think I would be searching for pictures, or a AIM page, that would let you really see the didfference of a 76 & 77 frame. The front end may NOT be the same.
