Default NOS or new repop?

Fuel filter. NOS that is 30-50 yrs old or new, probably chinese repop. This is a correct style canister filter that is probably paper or maybe synthetic element in the newer one.

I'm wondering if the old paper might deteriorate, or if there is any glue in there, etc.???

Unless is was stored in some environmental controlled state (vacuum sealed?) I can' see how the glues and filter material haven't deteriorated to at least some degree. Chances are it was on some warehouse shelf or basement and has been heat/cold cycling for decades....
I might try one that is 5 years old, maybe (doubt it) 10 but I don't need to be the guy that finds out the shelf life of materials that are known to deteriorate on a part that was never designed to last that long

Yea, I'm thinking that it is probably fine too.
But ,in another thread, I was advised to remove the filter in the carb as it would be redundant and possibly restrictive. If the old canister filter came apart, it would go right into the carb.
So, I could leave the carb filter in (or change it out) since it didn't seem to be a problem before.
Decisions, decisions, ......

I would flush out the filter with fresh fuel. Pour gas into the outlet and see any debris comes out of the inlet side. Jerry
