Default interior lights

In the process of trying to get my interior lights to work when opening the door. They work when turned on with the light switch but not with the door opening. Checked out the door switches by running a ground from the battery to each switch but still no go. Problem isn't in the door jamb switch. Went behind the glove box trying to find the delay timer. Nothing there that resembles a timer. Found an empty connector with 5 wires going into it with 1 white and 1 orange wire hot. Is something missing here. Is there anyway to make this work without a timer. Sending picture of the connector. This is on an 1980 model.

Did you actually remove the switches and examine the wire connection?

I know that on my '74 the dome lights work by grounding the white wire. I'm guessing if you jump both of the white wires together it will work without the timer

The timer is located in the back of the center console and plugs in the back of the printed circuit board near the fuel gauge just like a gauge bulb . The interior lights should also automatically turn on when you shut the engine/key off too

Yes I did. Ended up using a jumper on the 2 white wire on the plug in the picture. Works fine now, just no delay. Will have to see if I can find the delay mechanism somewhere.

Willcox sells two versions for 78-82, one that is built to bypass and another that works with the delay feature. Here are the links:

I don't even have the box that this fits into.
