my intention is to drive it everywhere! it was always a dream of having 69-72 corvette . i am building it at my own pace. i just would like to know what everyone thinks what a good engine and transmission combo is. i hear that bb keep cabin to hot, some say put bb to bring up value. i was thinking 383 stroker with a good automatic transmission

383 and 700r4 will serve you well for that goal. I wouldn’t waste the money on a BB or LS swap.
383 with a 4L80E. Fuel injected and a computer to run both. Easy start, clean run, and just like a modern car.
Too pricey? 383 and TH 400 with a carb; drive it like you stole it...
Im happy with my 383/200-4r combo. The 383 is just as cheap to build as a 350 if you have to buy rotating assembly anyway. Makes great low end power to have fun with.
The 200-4r is a direct bolt in for TH350 trans so it worked perfect in my ‘79. great low first gear and nice OD with a lockup torque converter.
Im not sure what trans a ‘72 would have come with, i know earlier ones came with TH400 but idk the cutoff year.

it would have a th400 ... like my 74 but the 200r4 is still a bolt in with as long as the correct size th350 yoke is obtained and used I think.

Every part of the drive train needs to work together.
Before you plan your engine build decide how you plan to drive the car.
Will you cruise everywhere, drive it with spirit everywhere, a few track days?
Do you plan to build a hi performance engine?
Do you know what gears are in the rear differential?
If you do, you’ll need to match the engine spec’s to the transmission type and gearing and to the rear differential gears.
Do your research, plan ahead and you’ll get it right.
