I knew my reply would get me labelled as a "liberal" and damn near Un-American but it will not change my mind or intimidate me. I will never understand the fervor behind guns. My main point though is that I thought this was the "Corvette Forum" not an advertisement for the NRA.
Are you going to answer coltcarbine's questions?

Was raised with firearms, won some marksmanship awards back when I was in the Boy Scouts.

Then, college, raising a family and paying the mortgage seemed to take over my life. Still had the rifle my father gave me as a high graduation gift, but had not even looked at it for nearly 10 years. Then Clinton was elected.

In my state of Utah, a majority of people own firearms. Somehow while many of us were a sleep, a liberal democrat was elected to Congress, and she strongly supported Clinton in his guns ban & restrictions.

All of a sudden firearms became a very important issue. I bought some of those on the banned list, and have sold most since things settled down. However, I became an election volunteer coordinator (EVC) for the NRA for my congressional district. When ever a local member wants to get involved in a campaign my name is given to them by the NRA home office.

I also get to work with some of the candidates, and make sure the 2A is protected and honored. I figure the best way to protect our rights is to get involved in the sewer of politics. Owning & collecting and shooting guns is a lot more fun than walking neighborhoods to get out the vote, but I want to make sure my kids can legally own anything left in my collection that I pass on to them. <soap box mode off>

Any gun can kill. This whole "Assult Rifle" tag is CRAP... Why do they call
them Assult Weapons? Because "They look scarry" *Shakes Head* leave
it up to the brain dead liberals in this country and our only weapons will be
a Peace Sign or a Flower..
I think the idea is that you can kill a whole lot of more people with an assault rifle in a shorter amount of time.

Don't get me wrong- I love guns, too. I had to take my 15 round clip out of my laser-sighted .40 Glock. I pack the 10 round clips now. The 15 stays in the nightstand, right next to the ole' double barrel shotgun I keep under my bed.

Yeah, I think it's silly. What am I gonna do about it? Learn to reload faster!

I just like collecting stuff. Guns, Vettes, coins, etc.

Funny, nobody has ever asked me why I "need" so many coins...

Used to be fanatic Trap shooter ATA register targets and all. All the registered shoots. But since buying my C3 have cut back a lot and only shoot trap at local club.
Also used to collect old Winchesters but sold them do to all the gun laws.
Got my Triumph TR-6 for a Model 12.
All the activist will get there way and living in a large city area owning or collecting just is not what I think is right to do. I'll stick to cars. Some suburbs don't allow ownership of firearms and I just could not see keeping my guns somewhere other than in my home so I sold them off. I am not against gun ownership but I feel that the fors are loosing ground. Love my Corvette. :chevy :seeya

I am an HRA Endowment Member and have been for the past decade. I don't hunt at all but love to shoot. Killing an animal doesn't much excite me and actually kind of makes me sick. But, I do eat meat...so go figure. Guns are for killing people who mean to do you harm. That's the only reason I own guns when you come right down to it. Target shooting is fun and I do that at least once a month. But, target shooting is only to keep "sharp" for the time you might need to use your gun to save your life. Had one passenger on each of those ill fated flights on 9/11 had a gun...or if the pilot had a gun as he certainly should have...I truly believe we would have those 3,000 plus lives back and our WTC still standing. It is absolute folly that pilots aren't armed. People who think the world would be a better place without guns are about as stupid as those who think if our nation disarmed, we'd set an example and the rest of the world would follow. Jimmy Carter thinks this is so and he is an ex-president who happens to be a very nice guy but dumb as a rock. Those of you who choose not to own a gun are certainly entitled to that. But, please...puh-leez don't tell me I shouldn't.

May I ask why you had to take your 15 rd magazine out of your Glock?

The magazines are restricted from new production only, not for your Glock from using a Hi-Cap. It is only illegal to posess a "Law Enforcement Only Hi-cap Magazine" and any pre-ban magazines that you have are perfectly legal to use or posess, and as many as you want.

There is a story going around about some Retired General that had taken a Boy Scout Troop on a shooting trip. Some Liberal Female Reporter quizzed him on why would he take the impressionable young boys out and equip them to be killers? He replied that they would no more be killers than she would be a prostitute as she was properly equipped to be. :yesnod: JIM :iagree:

Jim- just a little correction on 15 round mags. They are legal to own and use as long as you bought them before the ban, OR you can purchase more IF they were made before the ban...just in case anyone was confused about that. (my understanding of the SILLY LIBERAL law anyway, real fine job the other 38,000 gun laws have done...NOT! They can't seem to control CRIMINALS so blame guns as usual)

As for the guy who is whining about guns, the original question was, "Anyone else here collect / shoot firearms? It WASN'T what are your opinions. What part of the question did you not understand?

I agree, but to further clarify this. A magazine produced after the Ban date must be ten rounds or less to be legal, unless it is for " Law Enforcement Use Only" and will be marked as such. (Mine Are LEO)

A magazine manufactured before the ban date may be used in " Any Pistol" whether said weapon was manufactured before or after the ban date. It is the magazine production that has been restricted. Not the use of.

So my question still stands "Why did you have to remove your 15 round magazine from your Glock Captain Kaboom?"

I am a former (thanks to BIll) FFL holder and deal with firearm laws being a Law Enforcement Officer. Jim O'Neal #461 CCSD

the laws with the magazine are BS. with the slide helb back after the last round, most people release the empty mand and have a new mag inserted and pistol cocked and ready to shoot in less than a few secs with limited training.
im tempted to have someone time me now....if i do it this weekend when im home with the pistols, ill post how long it took

To ColtCarbine,
I am, or was, a firearm lover. I owned a Leader Mark II semi auto (.223) which was described by Pistolero Magazine as the best light assault rifle ever built. Aussie ingenuity!!! But along came Port Arthur and the Government went crazy and brought in a law banning ALL semi auto rifles. Unless I joined a "Military Rifle Club" I had to hand it in or go to jail. I was reimbursed $900 Australian which was about three times what I paid for it, but I'd rather have the gun. I was at the time a member of an IPSC club and had a S&W .45 DVC model in single action as well as a model 66, a 6" barrel .357 S7W and a Colt Single Action Army in .357. I won a bunch of trophies in "Top Revolver" shooting against other members who used Colt 1911 .45's. I wasn't much good against them with my .45, though. Fun days and good times, but along came my family and something had to go. The wife hates it, but I'll get rid of her before I get rid of the Vette. Legally, of course.
I really envy the freedom you Yanks have got in your ability to purchase just about anything in the firearm department, but you are about the only country in the world that has this freedom. Don't give it up.

I have tried skeet shooting with a shotgun, and range shooting with a Lee Enfield .22, but don't own any guns, and probably never will. My dad is a RCMP marksman with a service revolver and rifle. Gun laws in Canada are a funny thing. Even hunting rifles are hard to obtain, and most handguns and high-powered firearms are illegal to posses. Despite the controversy of our recent federal gun control laws, I do find the strict regulations do provide some peace of mind, IMO.

I love being an American in part due to the civil rights I enjoy -- I’m also a firm believer in YOUR civil rights weather I agree with you are not.

As for our second amendment - I find this one the most important as it protects all others. I do and always will own, shoot, appreciate guns.

Don’t just sit back - keep an eye on our elected “leaders” and write them and let them know we don’t want to go the way of Canada, England, or Australia. Especially you guys in California

I'm an avid shooter also. I have a few handguns including a Springfield 1911, STI, a couple Glocks, HK USPc, S&W, and my only revolver, a Ruger Vaquero in .45 Colt. I was shooting in IPSC but I've been too busy with the Vette lately.

I also have a Bushmaster AR15, Steyr Prohunter 30-06, Marlin .444 levergun, and three shotguns.

I'ts great to see so many shooters here!

"I will never understand the fervor behind guns"

Midget, I think it's a shame that you've made a commitment to "never understand" something but that's your choice and I respect it. Personally, I strive to understand as many things as I can. I can't say that I've always suceeded at it but I believe that I am a better person as a result of the times that I have been able to understand. On a larger scale, the most horrific events of history have been the result of the refusal to understand.

Many of us enjoy mechanical/technical things and (along with cars, stereos. computers, cameras, power tools, etc., etc.,) we enjoy guns. Some of us hunt, some of us target shoot, some of us just want to have a means to protect ourselves and our families, some of us just enjoy handling or looking at a fine piece of machinery, some of us enjoy creating and loading our own ammunition. Most of us enjoy some combination of those. Keep in mind that we are the law abiding citizens and, as such, we are the ones that are affected by the laws. Criminals (who by definition, don't obey the law) are not affected by those same laws other than that they make their "job" easier.

I really havent thought too much about the 2nd amendment and our rights dealing with the issues, but being an avid conservative, im sure that id completely. So you ask why do I shoot guns??
Well, my career track :D.........

I agree! It really is good to see so many here that share my interest in firearms. Of course, no matter where you go, there will always be a few "anti's" around. I try to educate them as much as possible on the issue and move on.

Shoot safely, drive safely, have a lot of fun!
Take care all,
