Default HEI Hook up - 0V using IGN

Hey guys! Hooked up a non-MSD HEI with a 10 gauge wire from the "IGN" on the fuse box by the pedals and plugged into "+batt" on the distributor. 12+ volts before cranking, goes to 0V while cranking. From previous posts on this forum, guys are using the "IGN" with no problem. Thoughts? Thanks!

Acc terminal acts like you describe, Ign terminal should be hot while cranking. I would double check which terminal you used.

Just me- but I like tying a wire of that importance- directly to a ignition wire-soldered or crimped.

A radio - no problem- but ignition will leave you dead in the water-if you accidentally pull it out- clutch - or brake pedal snags it- or knock it loose trying to reach a fuse.

Just sayin-

Here's a picture of fuse box. It looks like I've got the wire for the HEI plugged into the IGN, right? Again, when it cranks, power goes to 0V.

You may have a problem with the ign switch. Check the pink wire coming out of the ign switch, should be the same circuit.

It's a brand new ignition switch but I'll check it out. Maybe I have it plugged in wrong?

Your gauges are also connected to this circuit- the pink wire. See if the gauges are dropping power on start- as they should not

Pretty tough to plug it in wrong... I'd guess the ignition switch could be at fault

I got some time to check out the ignition switch. While cranking, there is roughly 9.5V at the pink wire on the ignition switch. I also installed a new neutral safety switch, and it still won't fire. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Where did you land with this? I'm in the same boat currently...

Old dead thread, I know... just hoping.

Hi David. I will have to take a look at what I exactly did. I can take a look this weekend and get back to you. If you don't hear from me, bump this thread and I'll get back with you. Although, I believe I ran a wire from the pink wire on the ignition switch, above the steering column to the distributor. Don't quote me on that. I'll check.
