Problems with 82 crossfire - engine dies irregularly
Car runs good unitl the engine has warmed up. Engine starts to stumble an idle slows down until it stops completely. Sometimes punching the throttle helps a little but it seems that only full throttle keeps the engine running. If you let it die, it won't start for about five minutes. If you restart it then, engine will only run with about a quarter of throttle for a few minutes. Then all of a sudden, it runs like nothing happened: Smooth idle, crisp throttle response.
Stupid thing is that this only occurs every now and then (not on a regular basis). That makes trouble-shooting in a workshop difficult. No error codes, new spark plugs and wires, various sensors and actuators are brand new. Fuses checked OK.
Any ideas are highly appreciated!
Have you checked if the injectors spray a nice conical mist of fuel? If the droplets are rather lagre, check the fuel pressure. Maybe a new fuel pump is what he needs.
